No longer is a person limited to only helping their local animal shelter. Thanks to the world of Animal Planet, people have been forced to face what is happening to companion animals, domestic animals, wild animals, farm animals and zoo animals all over the world. Help can be as easy as picking up the phone or using the computer to help out where help is needed the most.
PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is well known for their work against animal cruelty. Through their organization they have been able to stop animals from being used in crash tests, and as laboratory animals around the US. Their fight against killing animals for fur has taken on global proportions with the help of huge stars, such as Simon Cowell, Charlize Theron and Pamela Anderson. PETA is a non profit organization that is strictly funded by contributions from people from all walks of life to help in their fight for the prevention of cruelty to animals.
Another organization that has come into its own is the ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). This is one group that has a nation wide advertising campaign that focuses on the abuse and neglect of companion animals. The neat thing about this organization is that it was founded in 1866 as the first humane organization in the Western Hemisphere. Since then, this wonderful group has been helping animals in America get away from cruel owners and live a better life. Their mission is the same as it was in 1866; to alleviate the injustices that animals face everyday.
Companion animals are in desperate need of help in the fight against animal cruelty. With organizations such as PETA and the ASPCA, the fight is a little easier. However, they cannot make it without contributions from concerned citizens. Everyday, millions of animals are tortured, neglected, abandoned and abused for absolutely no reason whatsoever.
